Fire Investigation Unit
The Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal mandates in the State of Illinois Fire Investigation Act { 425 ILCS 25/9 } that all fires that occur within the State of Illinois be investigated for origin and cause.
Any fires that occur within the boundaries of the Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District shall be investigated by the Fire Investigation Unit. In cases of significant complexity, other resources may be summoned to assist in the case including but not limited to other local investigators, the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, Arson Investigators, K-9 Unit(s), and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
It is the goal of the Fire Investigation Unit to investigate all fires following the scientific method as defined in the National Fire Protection Associations Standard for Fire and Explosive Investigation. Investigators shall also conduct monthly training so that they are constantly updating their knowledge.
